About

Our story

A small bookshop that would rather sell you one book you finish than five you do not.

A stack of the books we are reading this month

We opened in a room above a bakery with four shelves and a card reader. Everything on this site is chosen by two people who read it first, and the recommendations are ours rather than whichever publisher paid for the table.

Shelves, at the start

We opened above a bakery with four shelves and a card reader. The shelves are still here.

2

People who choose the stock

Not an algorithm, and not whichever publisher paid for the front table.

48h

From order to doorstep

Board-backed, corners intact, tracked from the moment it leaves us.

What we care about

  • Every title read by one of us before it goes on the site
  • Packed board-backed so the corners survive the post
  • An honest answer when a book is not as good as its cover
  • Thirty day returns, no reason required

“If a book is not worth finishing, it is not worth selling. That has cost us money and we would do it again.”

Nadia, co-founder

What we will not do

We do not run fake countdowns, we do not inflate a price so we can discount it, and we will not recommend a book none of us has read.

Paper Boats, by Arun Desai

Not sure what to read next?

Tell us the last book you loved and why. We will send back three suggestions, none of them obvious.
